Sustainable social economic transformation of vulnerable children and communities.
To support vulnerable people attain sustainable development through building their capacities, information sharing and support.
We believe that integrity is the foundation of our Muslim character. Character is not inherited but is built daily by the way one thinks and acts, thought by thought, action by action.
Educational support to children from less privileged families. We believe that education is a key that unlocks countless opportunities. It is also a way out of poverty, a driving force for social change and an important aspect of personal development and welfare. This is why it is at the heart of the work we do.
In 2019 SAAMUFO visited school in the rural areas of Butambala, Kisoro and Kiboga districts to generate perceptions and attitudes that teachers and children have towards the increasing number of children who drop out of schools. Fifteen (15) schools were visited out of which 9 were primary and 6 secondary schools. During these visits SAAMUFO interacted with over 900 learners aged 12-16 years including head teachers and senior women through one on one, Focus Group Discussions and use of case studies/ testimonies.
Due to poverty, unemployment and despair most children in areas where we work are normally neglected by guardians and caretakers. Stigma and discrimination at school also affect their attendance and performance eventually. Basing on our findings from the school visits we have been able to identify the most vulnerable children and we are planning to start providing them with scholastic materials such as books, pens, uniform, shoes, tuition fees and school bags. We believe that such support helps to raise their self-esteem and confidence and therefore contributes to their stay and performance in school. We are also to follow up these children in school to ensure the pupils’ regular attendance and hence improved performance at the end of each term. Likely we plan to carry out monitoring at family level to ensure that guardians and caretakers play their role.
